Maiar staking problem

Recommended Posts

So I was referred to the everstake companies telegram and they had a pinned post.

📢 Dear Elrond Delegators!

⚠️ Elrond rewards tentatively to be distributed this week ⚠️

️Don't worry, your funds are absolutely safe&secured

Everstake is waiting when Elrond team unstakes foundational nodes, providing more space for validators

📍This was planned to happen earlier, however, was postponed in order to avoid any security issues and to test everything out. Sorry, but this does not depend on Everstake

📍The mainnet upgrade, which is a prerequisite for unstaking nodes, has been going well, thus currently Elrond team is testing nodes removal

We, as a community, should understand that Elrond's number one priority is the security of the network, and high-level security may require a bit more time and efforts.

Eventually, rewards will be paid out, even though with a minor delay of several days. On a large scale, we should take into consideration the long-term picture, and this picture as you know is quite bright! So let's be a bit more patient 😇

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ Update ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

The removal of Elrond Foundational Nodes starts today (13th of April). Elrond will remove ~121 nodes per day, for 3 days in a row, until we reach our 363 nodes target.

Pinned on 17th or April.

Everstake Chat, [17.04.21 15:49]
📣Dear Elrond Delegators

Everstake has 45 nodes in the Elrond network, 43 are in the waiting mode, 2 are validating.
Why 43 are in waiting mode? Waiting mode is not the same as waiting list, we are already in the network

📍When staking was announced to start on 26th of March, we were already taking an active part in network development and network security, testing everything out since the Battle of Nodes. That is why we were and are an official elrond staking partner.
At 26th of March when the staking lauched we started deploying the staking pool sharply at 14.30UTC, we deployed our staking pool successfully, however, it turned out that our nodes were out of first 1031. This happened due to the fact that the majority of other staking providers validate mainly in one network - Elrond, we are validators in more than 30 mainnet networks and 10+ in testnet. We had a delay of 30 min and did not managed to get into the network due to over demand in the network, nodes super fast become taken.

📍If we knew that we were out of 1031 nodes, why we didn't reported to our delegators?
Because Elrond network planned to remove 300+ nodes from Foundation and make them available to the providers on 6th of April(rewards started on 7th of April). We planned that our delegators will get rewards on 7th - 8th of April like others. However, elrond postponed removal of nodes in order to test everything out. We had no accurate date when nodes will be unstaked, until the evening 12th of April when elrond reported that nodes to be unstaked on 13th of April. We announced this, and our nodes entered the network on 13th,14th and 15th of April (in portions of 2, 40 and 3 nodes; as you can see 2 first nodes are validating and the others that were added on 14th and 15th of April - in waiting mode) as was announced.

📍Nevertheless, there is another problem that we are in the network but not producing blocks i.e. not distributing rewards. Why? Because the network RANDOMLY selects the nodes to be validating the network, nothing can influence this process. Elrond network works this way: there are 3200 validators in the network, and 1600 can be active at any time, so on average, 1 validator should receive rewards every 2 days.

📍We can not influence this process and make our nodes to be selected as validators. We are very sorry that you are not receiving rewards but this is how the network works.

📍When will you receive rewards?
The waiting time for the node to selected is around 5 epochs(1epoch - 24h) (as 80 servers are cycled out and then go to the waiting list of 400 Nodes which are done after 5 epochs). However, the 80 servers which are cycled out is random. Why other providers distribute rewards? Because they entered in the first 1031 nodes, why they entered and we no - please read the beginning. There are many more validators which do not distribute rewards because they are not selected either.

📍Will there be refund for the missed days?
In case we acted maliciously and it was from our side not producing rewards, we would have paid out refund. However, we were ready since the 26th of March to produce blocks and distribute rewards.

📍Are there any possible way to influence the process or speed it up? No, we can not do that in any way, the only thing we can do is wait, unfortunately. The network protocol selection could not be influenced.

⚠️⚠️⚠️Sorry for the inconvenience and a negative experience! We wish we could change the situation and distribute your rewards faster!⚠️⚠️⚠️

For me personally the is not a problem waiting, if I know I can get the "missed" rewards later. But at this moment the missing rewards will not be refunded.
That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Best case scenario would be if they could somehow compensate.

Some providers had their distribution of rewards dependent on the annouced unstake of 363 Elrond Community nodes, due to the position of the staked nodes in the waiting list.

The unstake for the first 342 Elrond Community nodes has been done last week (Tuesday - 121, Wednesday - 121, Thursday 100), after the legacy delegation smart contract has been updated to allow the asociated funds to remain as topup on the remaining elrond community nodes.

Rewards can only be earned if there is at least one active node from the staking provider participating in consensus during the epoch, otherwise no rewards will be distributed in that epoch.

There are also 5 days delay from the moment waiting list nodes enter the active nodes set until the moment they start participating in consensus and generating rewards, so if we take the worst case scenario in which a staking provider had their first nodes in waiting list that only entered the active nodes set on Thursday when the last batch of 100 community nodes were unstaked, then the first rewards generated by those nodes will be received on 20 April.

From that moment on, rewards will be received regularly as long as there is at least one node participating in consensus from the staking provider in that day.

Looking at the generated rewards starting with 20 April, on average these should converge to the APR estimation seen in explorer. In some days more, if the staking provider has more nodes participating in consensus, and in some days less, if there are fewer nodes (0 if no node in consensus for that day), but on average it should go towards the estimation.

Each day, from each shard there are 80 nodes that have previously participated in consensus randomly selected and taken out of the shards, replaced by 80 nodes per shard from the nodes that did not participate in consensus. This is part of the nodes shuffling mechanism used for securing the shards.

So in average, as we have 1600 nodes participating in consensus and 1600 nodes waiting in each epoch, one node will generate rewards every 2 days. This is already taken into account when estimating the APR, so we just need enough epochs (samples) so that the outliers are removed.

There are still 21 elrond community nodes that will be unstaked and will be replaced by staking providers nodes after the next network upgrade, so there will be an increase for the rewards with some of the providers then as well, taking the APR closer to the estimation.

i staked in 09.04.2021 and no reward until today... is there a problem ? it is normal ? on "Stake Capital" thank you

Stake Capital was in the situation described in my previous response:

Tomorrow I think it will be the first day with distributed rewards from Stake Capital (~14:30 UTC), as they already have nodes participating in consensus (first day today I think).

So recieved my first reward from Everstake. Doesnt seem like a reward to me at this point 🙂
Hope the number will increase significally during the next days.

Everstake has a lot of nodes active today, so tomorrow you will see higher than expected rewards.

What a big surprise..we've got answered !!! (after 3 weeks, since 1st post - 28 mars - issued, about no rewards problem)

These questions have been answered in multiple telegram channels, the staking providers can answer these kinds of questions and each have their own telegram channels.

There have been multiple things going in the background for the team, like making sure everything after release is working properly, finding a solution for the staking providers that did not get into the first 1031 seats originally planned to be distributed, preparing for the next release enabling ESDTs and NFTs, preparing for the snapshots for MEX distribution, making sure the economics behind MEX and MPAD are sane, testing and final touches for maiar exchange, other features planned for the follow-up releases, etc.

Kind of been hoping at least these kind of questions could have been answered by the staking providers to offload us a bit and allow us to focus on the next features.

The everstake company states that if they did it maliciously-they will refund.
But as I understand elrond also doesnt think did it maliciously - so the regular person 🙂  who between the staker and the token  - just gets less staking rewards as promised.
thats sad.

Ok, thanks for clarifying things, sorry if i was presumptuous.
